week 3 is underway. I got my arse kicked again this morning with Core Synergistics.

I need to find a way to work on my pull-ups. I have a pull-up assist to use which has been great and actually allows me to do a pull-up. If I don't use that, I can't do one (although progress is definitely being made). The issue is that I feel like the assist helps out more on the bottom half of the pull up (the starting motion) and that's where I need the most work. If I start a pull-up with my arms already at 90 degrees I can actually manage to get one off, but if I start from a pure hang I can't get to that 90 degree mark where I would be able to complete it. Any suggestions for ways to improve this?

Reduce your resistance on the assist band.

You can lengthen it or just remove one of the bands.

yeah, I should probably drop down to 2 of them for now instead of 3 just to see what happens. I'm still trying to get used to that thing to be honest, even after 2 good weeks of work with it. Trying to use that on a doorway pull-up bar is tough at 6'2. I already have to basically pull my legs up to my chest just to hang properly which is loosening the tension on the assist, so maybe I'm making more progress than I think.

Yeah, what Doc said. That's what I love about the pullup assist: it forces you to be honest with yourself. You know when it starts becoming a crutch and that you're just holding yourself back. The longer the band, the more you get out of it.

My doorway isn't very tall. Sometimes what I do is bend my legs not up, but back, and then I cross them. It allows you to go deep without your legs or feet hitting the floor.

I've tried to do this, but I just don't think it's possible with the assist. the bands get all in the way when that thing is behind you and it's just extremely awkward. I'm assuming you're talking about being in more of a dip position.

Yeah, it can only be done without the assist. But, honestly, if you're reducing the bands (I never did this because I didn't think to do this ), you're probably really close to not needing the assist at all.

I'm close to being able to do 1...I can feel it, and the day it happens will probably be the first pullup I've done since I was in first or second grade (I'm 31) Probably going to run around the house like I just won the superbowl or something.

I know the feeling. Before I started, I could do maybe 3. Now, I practically fall asleep doing them.

So out of curiosity, when T-25 has you eat 1600 calories a day, are they saying gross or net? That is, if I do Alpha Cardio and burn 300 calories, does that mean I can eat 1900 calories for the day because I burned 300, or do I still have to eat 1600 per day?

I feel like the latter is a little anorexic. Particularly for the first 5 day period where you're only supposed to eat 1200 calories...
