Figured those airbags would've been more effective

There was a Seinfeld joke about that in the Terri Hatcher episode. Then weirdly, in the same season, her daughter had a small part in another episode.

Someone told me that there were a bunch of mannequin heads (for holding wigs I guess) in the trunk that had spilled onto the road, which is what fueled the decapitation rumors.

I can’t imagine that being true now, but it’s part of the weirdness that comes with urban legends.

I believe she suffered some head trauma. But wasn't decapitated.

Long time New Orleans radio personality Bob Walker has a page dedicated to Mansfield's death on his website. He ended up having to cover the crash and here's his first hand account. LINK

Her head hit the windshield and her wig got stuck.

I remember when it happened. It was past the Rigolets. The location is on Google Maps. There is a roadside memorial. She was one of my first fantasies at ten years old.

It's kind of off in the woods iirc. I went out and found it one day many years ago.
