I guess you want you're book to suck.

They never killed Han Solo off did they? No because he was the coolest mother fricker in the galaxy.

George Lucas is a terrible writer

My version of Star Wars would've been FAR more epic than the Lucas version.

you can be somewhat prepared very cheaply

1. Keep all car/truck gas tanks full (or close to it) at all times...cost to you... 0$

2. keep four 5 gallon cans of gas full at all times, and rotate by using it in your car every 6 months...cost 50$ for the tanks..(your using the gas anyway at some point so I will not include that)

3. go to Home depot or Lowes and buy their 5 gallon buckets, at least 6, with tops... Make sure the buckets have a 2 in the triangle on the bottom (food grade, every bucket I have ever seen at Lowes and Home Depot has been food grade)...cost 25$

4. go to walmart/costco/Sams and buy $300.00 worth of dried beans, rice, pancake mix, oatmeal ect...bulk sugar, salt and cornmeal

5. stuff everything into the buckets seal with the top and duct tape well around the top ( if no is air getting in the bucket it will keep for 10 years or so)

6. Store in the coolest, driest place you can find at your house or garage

7. Rotate the food once every two years or so

8. buy ten cases of bottled water and some chlorinated pool shock (powder only) to treat water if need be

9. most everyone on this board has a gun... invest in ammo... it will not go bad. You have a duty to protect loved ones if you can

I have, and am doing, all of these things. I am not a prepper, but I think these are just reasonable precautions when you have children to care for. The cost is really minimal since I end up using all of it eventually

I like the way you think, sir. However, if it does go bad, that fuel will last maybe a year until it goes bad no matter how sealed it is.

I try to rotate the fuel in my mowers mostly, but in the winter I put Marine Stabil in the fuel...Probably not good more than a year out though. I also bought a small stock of heirloom seed (stay away from genetically modified seeds)from the local co-op. I keep those in the freezer. Some people may think its crazy but it gives me some measure of comfort to think that I have at least done something to prepare

I use no ethanol in my mowers and put that stuff in it year round, otherwise...

I like the seeds idea. Something I haven't thought of.

The question is, are you serious about the storyline?

1000 acres within 40 miles. A river, a spring, small game, deer, and turkey. Guns and ammo aplenty. A well supplied cabin.

I just hope I could stock up on deet before heading to the cabin. Chiggers, ticks and mosquitos would make summer survival a bitch.

Heirloom varieties are open-pollinated--meaning that unlike hybrids, seeds you collect from one year will produce plants with most of the characteristics of the parent plant. And that's key to their survival. It usually will state on the package.... or the old guy in the garden center will likely know which ones are heirloom

The LDS churches sell 25lb bags of black, pinto, and white beans for $16ea no tax. I don't think you can beat that

didn't know that, they have a great free pdf download survival manual as well, if you don't mind the religious references in it.

I downloaded it to my tablet with several other PDF's ...such as those showing how to build a whiskey still, a forge to make knives and numerous other survival topics. Just have to have enough battery to run my tablet

Absolutely. To be honest, this thread is my research.

Like I said, I've already started piecing together a plot and I have several scenes worked out in my mind.

I have a very active and creative imagination, so I can write in detail about images that are stored in my memory. It's like I have a movie constantly playing in my head.

Same here. The story has been forming for a while now... I have gotten a lot of the basics worked out, but am still working on the direction, etc.
