Bullying now is more of a mental thing then a physical thing. All of this cyber bullying going on is pretty sad. I would rather them just come out and throw some hands than spread things all over the internet but kids now are just a bunch of punks so they hide behind technology to bully.

You self delusional idiot. Your thug kids would give the bully lessons and then try to sell him meth.

bullying has been around as long as we have. I was the smallest boy in my class and wore glasses. I chose to fight back against the bigger boys who picked on me as soon as it started...it worked even though there was no clear cut "winner" to the fight. I honestly have no idea how to handle the new forms of bullying via electonic media, besides making sure that I'm a good parent to my kids and trying to instill some self confidence in them. Bullying isn't going away now or ever now matter how much Ellen Degeneres cries about it.

Honestly, we've distorted the meaning of emotionally sensitive words so much recently that the OP's post doesn't provide enough information to answer the question.
There's a chance your brother's kid persistently is harassing/assaulting some other student, and persists despite being told to stop, and punishment is in order
There's also a chance that your brother's kid just called some kid a bad name once, or some other simple little squabble that kids just need to learn to socialize through on their own without the faculty intervening

See how stupid your post looks now, although it's almost entirely in context?

Defending something because it's been around forever is retarded. If you're pro bullying, then come up with a better argument than "it's always been around and I've got a cool story about it"

I never claimed to be "pro bullying"nor did I defend it or say it is a good thing. But I do firmly believe that its not going anywhere.

Fair enough, I misread your intent and I apologize. I'll go back to sarcastic bullshite.

Like most things involving kids I think it's going to begin and end with the involvement of both sides parents. My dad gave me green light to not be disrespected ("bullied") by anyone and told me he would support me in the fallout with teachers/faculty/other parents/etc. He also specifically stated that in no way was that a green light to go about fighting or taking excessive liberties with my behavior.
If parents gave a shite you'd probably see childhood bullying decrease by a tremendous amount. But like I originally said bullying in other forms: in the business world, in social situations, etc will continue as long as there are people.

Used to bullying just led to fist fights now it leads to school shootings.
It's just not worth being a bully anymore

It starts at home with active parenting, along with good social interaction as the kid grows. Not enough is done in schools to prevent bullying either.
I was bullied as a kid, but my kids weren't/aren't. If they were, I'm sure they couldn't handle it like my dad had me do it - frozen soda can in a bag, and start swinging.
If you've never experienced it, or seen a kid go through it, you really shouldn't have an opinion on the subject in my opinion.

First of all, why does the can need to be frozen? Second, if your kid does that today, you better be able to afford one hell of an attorney.

One thing I never understood is the social media side of things. If a person is getting picked on on facebook or instagram, why don't you just delete that person?

I think a lot of these kids hang on the bullies as "friends". Lonely and desperate, they don't wan tot alienate anyone, even a bully.
As you grow to be a man, you look back and realize that real men protect the weak, not prey on them. It sucks knowing that you (at one time) may have contributed to making some kid's life miserable.
