I had this same problem on my '07 Civic. All three quotes I got were between $1500 and $2000. To access the compressor and compressor clutch, you have to completely remove the front right wheel well. The parts here are cheap. It's the labor cost because of how difficult it is to access everything.

Bruh, I changed a compressor in an 07 Civic and never even thought about removing the wheel well.

I put the sucker up on a jack stand and replaced the compressor without issue. The challenge was making sure the belt stayed on all of the pulleys. It was a tight fit but not difficult.

I see many posters in this thread recommended replacing the dryer and evaporator. I guess that makes sense but I never did and had zero issues moving forward.

Ac compressor replacement is a DIY job but you'll need to bring it in to have the system vacuumed and charged properly. If you don't bring it in and charge it at home, you'll eventually blow the evaporator/radiator

Is it a difficult job? Trying to change it on my wife's (no pics) Honda Civic.

She got a quote today for $1500. Screw that. I'm moderately mechanically inclined. Can I do it or is it easy to jack up?

If you're in Nola, I highly recommend Cacamo's in Mid City. I had my compressor and condenser changed a few months ago there for less than $900. A friend of mine drives the same car as me, he had only his compressor fixed at a place in BTR, and they charged him $1,000 for just that.

Last year my car had an issue that Cacamo's could not repair (it needed to have computer reset at Nissan). The mechanic tried for at least 3 hours to figure out what it was. In the end, they told me I just needed to bring it to Nissan. They didn't charge me a dime because they couldn't fix it. I cannot recommend Cacamo's enough if you don't wanna do it yourself.

It is a Civic. Buy a compressor, change it out. Borrow a vac pump from auto zone and refill with refrigerant. It is really that simple. Make certain that you do not have any leaks)

Do not over think it
