Until they naturally come off. Usually shower the next morning.

OP: what is your reason for this question? just curious.. the popcorn included

Ash Receivers: why would anyone brush the ashes off, given the significance and meaning? (only good answer... needed to put on or take off an expensive white turtleneck sweater)

I recall a story, I suppose it is unconfirmed - but I have heard it more than once, that Ted Turner was in his elevator, with CNN (or TBS) employees once, and strained his eyes, looked curiously at the forehead marks... and said "What is that? Oh wait, a bunch of Jesus freaks, huh?"
