I get the point of not hitting in there in the first place
I guess if you play old man golf and hit the ball straight up the middle 150 yards tops, then yeah.
I get wanting to practice that bunker shot. I've even considered making a little area in my backyard with sand that I could hit practice balls out of. Whether green side or fairway bunker - people hit them from time to time. Even the pros do.

I have played courses where the fairway was <60 yards wide with ~40 yards wide of fairway bunkers starting at 225 yards and ending at 290 yards. So you have to fly the ball 290 to clear them, thread a 18 yard needle, or lay up and give yourself a 190 yard approach shot to an elevated green over another bunker. That hole is always in my mind when I find a driving range where you can practice long shots out of a sand trap.
