I'm having surgery in a few weeks and my doc may repair a hernia as well.

Will be done lap and he's been doing it for years and years. He suggested it based on recovery time, etc.

I had both sides done lap. Still some soreness a few years later when I pull on mesh a bit but I’m pretty active as well.

I had both. The first open, was barely able to walk afterwards for a few days. First time I had to pee I damn near passed out. Ten years later it happened, hernia, again right above where the first one was. Went lap, I was at work the next day. Same doctor.

I came here for readers who experienced this repair and which would they choose if they had the choice again.

Open is usually more accurate and has a reduced risk for long term complications whereas laparoscopic is less invasive and has a quicker recovery time. Usually doctors only perform open if they can't do laparoscopic for some reason.

For senior citizens, elderly patients, etc, lap is the preferred choice.

My doctor is suggesting robotic assisted inquinal hermia surgery.

Suppose to safer, more accurate and quicker recovery time than open or lap. The only drawback is make sure you get an experienced doctor who knows how to handle the controls.
