There’s probably some truth to that. The grade in Louisiana is even lower than Mississippi. Notice how the panhandle of Florida goes vertical a lot faster than Mississippi. On 30A there are some 20 to 30 foot rises as soon as you get off the beach where the houses start. East of Destin has a pretty good headstart when it comes to storm surge protection since the land rises faster. Mississippi’s is a lot more gradual.
