I don't believe so. I think it may temporarily affect the spark timing, but there's no chip to damage.
I think an HEI distributor would be fine. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Seriously it would be fricking terrible if the government knows where I drive my car. They could spy on me buying groceries and, I can't even stomach this one, coming to and from work.

Worried about your car being hacked? The obvious answer is to ditch the car and go with this....
