"Baw" is the English word "boy" said in a thick, manly, country accent.

Ex.) Baw, I tell you what.....those Auburn fans have to have everything spelled out for them.

Here in north Alabama they say it as more of a "Boi" sound. There's a whole family of rednecks's I went to school with that you could not understand anything they say other than they end every statement with "boi". It was quote odd.

The reason most if not all old dudes have a handkerchief is they were raised (i.e. attended school, church, etc.) under policies instituted by people who had first-hand experience with the influenza epidemic of 1918. It killed three to five percent of the world's population. The AIDS ain't got nuthin' on a good influenza pandemic.

Errybody HAD to have a hanky in the 30's in public school, it was required.

It is also the hallmark of a gentleman. It can pay dividends in the right situation with a lady.
