Violent crime clearance rates in the US (arrest and prosecution, not necessarily conviction) averages slightly below 30% nationwide and slightly over 40% in NYC. Nationally there is about a 68% conviction rate of all crime and about a 72% rate in violent crimes. NYC convicts about 77% of the time and about 82% of the time in the case of violent crime. By any measure the justice system in New York, flawed as it may be, works better than it does on average in the United States.
Violent crimes are state crimes and are prosecuted in State courts. 19 of the 25 most dangerous cities in the US are in states with overwhelming GOP majorities in state legislatures and governors. Claiming crime is a variable based on political parties does not look good for either party but it is particularly a bad look for the GOP.
