What exactly do 600 software engineers do at the NY Times?

I swear these companies are so bloated they probably don't know what half of their employees do.

Anecdotal but I know a software engineer that works at a large university making almost $200k a year and the dude plays video games most of the day. And he's not ashamed to say it.

The latest tech layoffs have exposed bloated tech departments.

Once a union takes hold, can the company legally fire all of them?

Since it's the New York Times, a very pro-Union organization, I find it amusing.

I will never understand why the OT always sides with management rather than the common man
Because the “common man” is making ridiculous demands. Significant pay increase and increaee in healthcare benefits while also dropping to 4 day work weeks? Unlimited break time?

Pet bereavement leave? “Sorry boss, another one of my 30 goldfish died so I’m gonna need the rest of the week off to grieve and give it a proper flush…I mean funeral”

This is why so many US jobs end up outsourced overseas.

and language that would prioritize non-citizens in the US on visas in the case of layoffs

This just proves someone in the union was trolling when they wrote their demands.

I read that part as non-citizens on visas would be the first ones on the chopping block if NYT was laying people off.
