or...they could build the new radar site in Hammond and they bring it online and deactivate Slidell.

so instead of 3 months, you would be without radar coverage for...say...60 seconds?

They haven't explicitly said it (to my knowledge), but they might be completely out of spares (and some critical spare parts). And it was a one time manufacturing run.

Part of the delay in getting the LCH one back up was having to design-build some replacement hardware, I want to say a new tower deck and/or the actual mounting hardware.

The late John Moseley (Meteorologist in charge, NWS , Baton Rouge) knew that the KLIX Radar was going to miss low level rotation over the Baton Rouge area. The Old NWS Radar in Baton Rouge was housed at Ryan AIrport. It was a five cm C band Radar that WAFB tv used to use during the stations broadcast.

The restructuring of the NWS closed down the Baton Rouge office and the Radar at metro AP was removed.

The Radar at Baton Rouge was not a Doppler but was useful for the Baton Rouge area. The Baton Rouge office closed in 1995.

That makes to much sense so it will never happen
