quote:"Better" is the opinion of the individual.
The whole thing started with OP saying they had better cars.
quote:That's one problem with the written word.
We've veered so off topic
Your post while probably correct, appeared to be saying something different.
I'm a car guy. I've met few cars that I didn't like.
I've never been in love with them I do like them.
I know a lot about them generally speaking. I read a lot of Road & Track, a rag not always correct, and others.
quote:Here is where I totally disagree when we are throwing a blanket over each group separately.
It's a plain fact that in stock trim, those old muscle cars (while fast for their time) would not keep up with even low level performance cars of today. That goes for quarter mile, road racing, auto x etc.
The old ones were very bad in the breaking department. The suspensions were never intended for ANY racing with turns.
1/4 mile is where people go wrong. People look at numbers from back in the day.
I had F70's on both my 66 SS and my 70 Challenger. Getting one off the line is where many races were won and lost. Even the layer of rubber on the 1/4 mile line helped very little and even worse on the street.
I once had an excellent website that had times from a lot of cars with notations of what year they the passes were made.
A quick back to back ride in my old 14.5 SS and then my 13.0x 02 T/A would have you wondering why the numbers were so different.
Sadly 1971 time slips didn't have mph or we could have calculated.
That chart DID have more current info on some SSs.
I drove a couple of GTXs back then. No use argue about it but you would have to prove it to me.
Last time I was at the track front wheel drive cars ran in a class of their own. Most were obnoxiously loud and none were interesting. We paid very little attention to them. It was a good time for minor repairs, heart burn burgers, piss, and study time sheets.
Technology has only gotten better since I was at the track but my buddies 18 Accord simply isn't fun. We should know. He had a '69 GTX 6 pack back in the day.
Once we got the tires to hook that baby was fun .. especially when all traction was lost when he shifted to 2nd.
quote:Find a better source. They were worse than Road & Track ... seriously. I think they pull 1/4 times out of their arse. Neither compares to actual times we were getting and seeing others get.
Car and Driver
We thought maybe they were a mile high while we are running at 10-15 ft. but computations didn't indicate their stuff.

And based on tour math, they were grandmothers in their 30’s. Free love huh?
If sarcasm is your point I think you failed.

You didn't say what you got but I'll bet a tire replacement will improve the "fast" part.
You're welcome.

What's that retort the kids used all over the board? Oh yea...
Sorry for partying. Nobody has ruined the country. This country is only "ruined" in the minds of the willfully ignorant and the hopelessly stupid.

It's changed for sure. I lived in a time when the black man "knew his place".
I don't like some important changes but others, like the above just needed changing. There are many I like. One can just imagine the changes since 1948.
A decent discussion would a list of good and a list of bad.
Cars of course would be one. Technology increases. My '66 SS was about as simple as it gets. Didn't even know what a computer was. What existed would have to be carried on a 18 wheeler. No A/C. I could put headers on it in an afternoon while I drink beer.
The computer in my son's '18 Mustang boggles the mind. It allows unbelievable amount of compression. We put a Roush blower on it. Ford will still honor his warranty. The computer needed some reprogramming of course but easily controls things allowing 640 at the wheels.
... but headers! I think I might rather be put in a cell with Bubba than put headers on that thing.

Red,
It's a 69 vette, modded ZZ4 carb'd crate motor, 4 spd. For the sake of originality, it still has the 15X8 Rally Wheels it came with and with that size, there aren't that many street tire options left. 235/245 T/A's hook up pretty well and they are not that expensive. With that said, even with all the extensive external & internal engine mods done on this engine, it is not going to compete with a modded & tuned LS3 much less an LT4/5. Hence the comment, 'quick but not as fast as compared with...'

The first '69 I laid my eyes on had a 427 4 sp. He got on it as he was turning onto the highway. I don't recall how many times it switch side going sideways before he got it stopped. Luckily it stayed on the highway. I figure he had to throw his drawers away.

It's a fun car to play with. The original motor was the L46 350/350 which I have preserved in my shop. The sidepipes are original to the car.
It has 26K miles on it and I have all receipts with dates & mileage back to '71. 2nd owner, original owner bought it when he came back from Nam.

Seems this discussion got off topic, but this will bring it back. Crazy to think these gals are 70+/- now, and probably someone's meemaws.

She in a meemaw x 8.
I showed the grand kids a picture of her in a 2 piece when she was 18. They were shocked.
Only problem now is she can't tell them their bikinis are too small.
Note: That was '70. Those girls could easily be great meemaws now.

Yeah, it didn't end with us. It was different back then.Technology and other advances have caused a world different from then, good and bad, that will never be reproduced.
