The concealed carry class I took the instructor told us, if you draw a weapon you better intend to fire it and when you fire it, empty the magazine.

Once your target has their back (with added holes) to you on the ground or running away, the threat is over. You cannot just keep going because you have rounds left. Amazes me people don't understand this.

Lol. Then your CCI gave you AWFUL advice. Dude shouldn't be instructing.
Eta: you should watch this video by Ayoub. It's an excellent explanation of the justification for using lethal force.

I would forget everything your instructor said and take another course from a different one.
