I think it was supposed to be gm mosquitos that would mate with regular females and the offspring wouldn't survive long after birth but after they made them they realized some were female and the worry is what happens to the offspring of 2 gm mosquitos.

That's the theory I heard.

Lmao! At least you're a good sport about it. Some other clowns of the OT would have probably cussed me.

I saw something about a proposal for GM mosquitoes that could produce female offspring only. That would knock down the numbers but not make the species extinct (which should be the goal).

Many common viruses can cause some of those more serious symptoms too.

How far are we from people creating these viruses just to profit off of the cure?

We're not that far off from creating viruses that can target specific DNA profiles of ethnic groups, or even individuals. Don't like a country's leader? Engineer a virus to take him out.

It's not man made but it sure is nasty. So much for my trip to playa del Carmen. No way.
We went in July. Our entire family never got the first mosquito bite. We always used spray, especially around our ankles, but the locals laughed because there's no standing water in the area. It's just a huge limestone peninsula and water pours into the underground streams. Honesly never even swatted at a mosquito while we were there.

Makes me think there is a West Nile connection.

The idea behind creating sterile mosquitoes is that they will mate with native mosquitoes, and NO OFFSPRING will be produced.

The genetically modified mosquitoes will produce sterile male offspring that will compete with regular mosquitoes thus driving the population down.

There is a legitimate theory that attempting to create genetically modified sterile mosquitoes may have created it.

Yeah Ive read that too. Werent the mosquitoes released in the same area of Brazil that Zika started appearing?
