Actually last year they changed their status so they're no longer a nonprofit.
But even when they were a nonprofit, the NFL is just a trade association. Yes, they bring in lots of money but they hand most of it over to the teams, which are legally separate entities.
The individual teams are the one making the money and paying the taxes. The league is just a pass-through.
