Everyone thinks some great revelation was made today by in the council meeting. Some great gotcha moment.

THE SYSTEM WASN'T AT 100%!!!

It was like 90%...

Did they reveal even which 90%?

Downvote away. It is easier and cheap to replace the already retiring head of the SWB than to address clogged drains or the undersized system. If you believe the system will ever truly be 100% then you have no clue how mechanical systems work. Especially in a city where 90% would be the shining example of government.

Who knew the city relied on those 7 pumps

It was actually 14. Each station has 4-5 pumps so that means essentially 3 entire stations weren't operable out of the 22 stations around the city in the middle of hurricane season.

So 10-15%....

If a system is built without a buffer then it is a shite system.

If an entire pumping station is down, YES! That falls on management. Especially if they knew it was down and weren't working around the clock to return it.

8 of the 101 high capacity pumps were out.
14 pumps were out of service for maintenance.
4 of those the 14 pumps were located in Lakeview which mean only 9 of 13 pumps were operating at that pumping station.
1 of the 3 high capacity pumps in the City Park pumping station were broken.
Other major pumps have shorts in them so those pumps shut off anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes to over an hour.

6 pumps are Constant Duty pumps used for groundwater were out of service.

Heatmap for 911 reported flooding on Saturday and the labels in Blue on the map are the pumps.

Inexcusable

I'm assuming the insurance companies are going to sue the city? Anyone know how this might play out?

Here is what we now know about Lakeview. It is the only major pumping station that IS NOT manned 24/7 by the SWB. In other words NO ONE was at the Lakeview pump to start it up.

Lakeview only starts pumping if the water hits the 12 foot mark which by the time someone arrived a full hour and a half had passed of flooding took place with no water being pumped because no one was in the pumping station. An off-duty SWB worker made it to the pump and turned it on after getting there in a military grade truck.

Even after the Lakeview pump was turned on only 9 of the 13 pumps were operating. The SWB hasn't touched any of those four pumps since Jun 22nd.

Lastly Lakeview doesn't have a constant energy generation supply so the 9 pumps that were pumping were not pumping at full capacity because there wasn't enough electricity to pump them at full capacity.

It's not about the pumps being down. The cover up and lies are worse than the crime.

The only insurance company that is going to cover this is the National Flood Insurance Policy program which means that the US Gov't is on the hook for the flooding for policy holders who have a flood insurance policy.

That's not true... all the vehicles that flooded are going to be private carriers

Maybe we can tax ourselves in Lakeview to fund a Sewerage and Water District like we have to for the Crime Prevention District.

Apparently we need a Postal District as well, since we haven't gotten mail here since Friday.

Good point you are correct I was talking about actual real estate property not immovable property. The automobile insurance carriers will be on the hook for the thousand or so cars/motorcycles/etc. that went under.

S&WB has a funky agreement with Entergy because they want to own their own feeders. They are planning on building a new substation that will definitely help with the reliability but that's 2 years away

I'm not sure what is worse... trusting the S&WB to run their own power, or trusting Entergy to provide them power.

frick Orleans parish. At minimum I'd wait until this election cycle is over. You shouldn't move here until you know who the mayor and city council will be

Already living here in Orleans Parish.. Just looking to buy in Lakeview.. Everyone in my life that we talk to says we're silly to think about avoiding LV because of all this flooding stuff, but it's got me a little (or a lot) concerned.
