So? Government gives away prime real estate all the time. The local governments gave the Braves land to develop in the ATL area, look at the land that governments give sports team owners, etc. That is hardly anything new.

1. Cars are much more dangerous than rail and slower too.
2. Competition is always good. Why should the turnpike and cars have a monopoly on Orlando-Miami commuters?
3. FEC could get RRIF loans without doing passenger rail. In fact the US government gave out around 1 billion in RRIF loans last year, and investing in railroads is much better than not investing in them. Every freight train takes 110 18wheelers off the road.
