Should they just go ahead and close down the WWII Museum and the Port, Mardi Gras World, the brand new renovated Aquarium, etc?

Always enjoyed NOLA… retired a while back and looked at picking up a condo in the quarter or esplanade area… spent a lot of time the last ten years researching… with the changes in the tax structure etc got cold feet… then the crime increased to 1980 level ( which I witnessed first hand right out of college and living there )…. I have given up on that dream… I like the Nola vibe… but not the crime uptick… after my mil passes away we will not even go back…

Good luck Nola .. I am pulling for you ….but … for now … from a distance …

What percent do you think are going back home and telling their friends and neighbors “man, you gotta go to this place!!!”? You think it’s a higher or lower percent than it would have been in 10 years ago? 20?

Ho much longer do you think you can play the ‘this is all just fine’ game?

No one is listening to their neighbors about whether to come to NOLA or not.

Have you ever made a decision like that?

Oh I agree....I don't think crime / safety is the only factor driving the revenue loss only that it should not be ignored or passed along as a non-factor especially to regional visitors and the more shite like this happens I don't see why some people continually want to ignore it's relevance.

People are saying it matters to them then are told by some apologists "Well, your contribution doesnt matter anyway". Sure, one single family doesnt make much a difference but when it's compounded it matters. It's likely going to take a few more years for the tourism and travel industry to bounce back post COVID everywhere but crime and safety concerns are real and have an impact.

You’ve never chosen to go somewhere because you had friends who talked up how great it was, or even had it weigh on your decision? Do you ever interact with people at all in a genuine fashion?

Being from LA, Scruffy tells people who ask if it is worth it that it isn’t and the city is a shell of its former self.

Make sure to mention the current crime stats and the abysmal state of the tourist areas.

Convinced many people to stay away and go to far better cities that do a much better job in trying to pull in and keep tourism.

WTF are you talking about? You have the mind of a 12 year old.

Not adequately handling the crime and safety concerns, understaffed police force and failing criminal justice system doesn't go away because the WWII Museum built another expansion.

I've either wanted to go or not wanted to go. I hear people talk one way or the other, but I don't let it impact my decision.

Like Disney, never been and never want to go. I hear people say it is amazing and that I should go. Don't see it happening.

Likewise I hear people shite on Detroit or other Midwest cities. Still like going to them.

Bama is a regular in the Sugar Bowl and they travel well. Have you been to Alabama? Have you been to Kansas? a week in the city is a vacation and if I had to guess the city raked in 600 million in less than a week.

I get it you guys are emotionally invested in the city failing. I would fixate on something else, NO isnt going anywhere and will survive the dumb bitch that is the current mayor. It has survived worse than her.

The next mayor will be worse than she is.

It is the natural progression.

TripAdvisor and Yelp have thrived on that very concept. People do listen to their neighbors and seek their neighbors advice quite often...go to the travel board from time to time and see how frequently people base their travel decisions based on feedback from total strangers.

The lack of personal experiences or existence doesnt mean it doesnt exist.

If people want to come they will not listen to the negative and listen to the positive.

New Orleans is on the list of places people want to visit, crime or no crime. People will come when they run out of other places to go.

It isn't a 'this is fine' mentality it is a 'this is how it has always been' mentality.

I don't think people are suggesting that the city will collapse and become a ghost town but it needs change. Decades ago places like Vegas and NYC needed massive changes as well and have reaped incredible benefits from positive changes making places safer. I just don't see the advantage to not acknowledging the impact that crime and safety concerns has on the economy?

"I don't go to NOLA because I don't feel safe"

"Well, your contribution doesnt matter anyway and for the record, revenue loss to the city is because of COVID and not because of safety concerns."

No one is ignoring that. It is mentioned all the time.

The city isn't going to collapse because of what is going on though.

Except people who would normally go aren't and it has nothing to do with COVID.

How many people need to say they are avoiding the city out of crime and safety concerns before you believe it? If first hand accounts are not enough individually from people who avoid the city, how many would make it legitimate?
