NYC is in a different league. The concentrated wealth doesn’t exist anywhere else. This results in things like world class museums, architecture, and philanthropy. For a massive city, it’s incrediblely safe, especially Manhattan. There is a constant ebb and flow of feeling beat down by the grind vs the anything-is-possible feeling. It’s certainly not a Utopian society on an island though. You just need $500k/yr to have a the 2.5-kids-and-a-dog lifestyle like most people on this board are used to.

NOLA’s lassiez approach isn’t for everyone. But for those who get it, there is nothing that compares.

They don't compare. They are two distinctly different cities with their own goodness.
