I have never lived in Los Angeles. My family, extended included, have lived in the New York area well before the 1950s.

My preference would be New York over Los Angeles and it is entirely possible to live comfortably with $175K/year in New York.

That being said, I'm happy currently being in Chicago over these two cities.

LA.

Not close.

ETA: Has everyone answering this at least spent a week in each city? I guess it's wrong to box people in, but I'm surprised so many La. folks think they'd like New York.

NY easy. LA is a glorified Houston.

I think I'd choose Chicago over NY. The people there are WAY more down to earth that NYers.

Incidentally, that's also why I'd rather live in a van by the river than anywhere within 60 miles of Washington DC, aka the Throne of Satan.

For some reason, the thought of living in NYC intimidates the hell out of me. It is a concrete jungle. I imagine it would be awesome to visit as an adult, but I could see myself just being miserable and lonely and add shitty weather to that.

I moved to DC in March, and every day is worse than the day before.

When you think about it, that means today is the worst day of my life.

Seriously, I hate the East Coast, and I went to school in the NE. I don't know why so many people love New York. To enjoy that City I honestly think I'd need to be making over $600K a year. To really enjoy the "idea" of New York, you need to be a millionaire several times over.

Seasons are overrated as hell. Winter flat out fricking blows and I can't wait for it to be over every year... And I'm from ATL.

NYC. Never been to LA, and probably couldn't see myself living away from the East coast. Plus there is tons and tons of hot Eurotrash slut poon to slay in NYC.
