Hopefully the increase property taxes will be used to hire police from neighboring jurisdictions to replace the 700 officer headcount reduction we've seen since Mitch was elected ( currently 1500 officers vs 2200 pre Mitch )

They’re hiring officers constantly and bumping their pay. You have to consider the population pre-Mitch/pre Katrina too.

I tell you what, they better get the firefighters closer to a livable wage or you’ll start seeing medicals and fires become a huge problem.
The study just released showed the fire dept is 34% behind the police dept. On average around the country it’s a 12% difference.
They’re 40% behind surrounding departments.
They also make 65,000 calls versus 18,000 to neighboring Departments.

Meanwhile S&WB has received a 10% increase in the last 3 years and continues to let the city flood during a Tuesday shower.

The city and citizens better pick their priorities wisely. Public safety should be at the top over swing sets and removing statues. Just an opinion.

ETA: these were firefighters, patrolling the streets during Katrina because so many officers jetted. That’s who protected the city. Time to get them paid.

Won’t happen. The city is getting income for doing nothing.

You might be surprised. Lots of illegal pay offs surrounding these camera companies.

The one in the CHI case has pretty much said they have been paying off people all over the country.

A few weeks back the black mayor pro tem of Dallas, that supported/forced bringing down the Lee statue in Dallas at a cost of $500k-1mil, was indicted for getting $450k from school bus camera company.

Things are about to get interesting soon enough...

And the guy behind the pay offs to the Dallas Mayor pro tem, lives in the nola area. Robert Leonard, owner of Force Multiplier Solutions.

Boy I sure hope so. The assessors office is getting ready to roll 100% prpty assessments increases throughout the City so if your taxes are $8k they become $16k annually on a 600k home.

Wouldn't the millage automatically be halved if valuation doubles, unless City Council votes to override that?

Major props to them. It takes a lot of balls to do what they did, especially since it's not a part of their job.

Biggest balls on a fire service around. Guys love their city and what they do. Would be nice to be compensated one day for being reckless and fearless when it comes to protecting and helping the citizens.
Been shite on for 8 years with Mitch. I despise that man.
