This summer, the Governor signed four bills into law that intend to address hazing on Louisiana's college campuses.
* HB 270 - protects students that report violations of student codes of conduct related to hazing
* HB 793 - requires colleges to provide annual hazing education and prevention for new students and student organizations; requires colleges to expel or suspend students who haze
* HB 466 - requires individuals to seek reasonable assistance to anyone who might suffer harm, including hazing
* HB 78 (The Max Gruver Act) - increases the consequences of criminal hazing to a fine up to $1,000 and imprisonment up to six months; if hazing results in a blood alcohol level of .30 or higher, serious bodily harm, or death, the fine is up to $1,000 and imprisonment up to five years
Thoughts?

Glad I was in school when things were still fun.

On the one hand you have heavy handed nannyism. On the other, you have a generation of kids who manifestly cannot deal with the temptations and responsibilities that come with living on their own. It's a perfect storm.

Bunch of pansies. Next they'll be laws against parents for spanking their children.
Yeah things go to far by stupid people, but monitored properly it's a really good learning experience

It wasn't murder officer, I was just hazing him. Which judge will be the first to buy this?

I hated when they forced me to join a fraternity and told me to do things and I was unable to say no or leave.

When I attended LSU, the hazed individual was just as guilty as the person doing the hazing because you knew the rules forbid hazing to begin with.
It's sad the boy is dead but he was a legal adult. He got coerced into doing something, they didnt hold a gun to his head.

I just learned the other day you cannot teach new members the Greek alphabet as it is considered hazing

Better yet, the public school systems are spending time discussing "bullying" and "butthurt" in class. The parents were invited to attend the same classes in the evening if they wished, I replied to my wife, No need for me to go, they don't want my lecture on "Life is tough, it is tougher if you are stupid." I fear for the future of this world, perhaps a meteorite strike would not be so bad. Let another mammal take the wheel for a bit, I suspect the dolphins would do far better.

Can be said for a lot of things that we find unacceptable.

It should not be a state legislatire problem. LSU should have the balls to enforce stricter rules. Now, everytime some stupid pledge drinks himself into a stupor, he can claim hazing and get people in trouble. Much like the “me too” bullshite. For the record, my opnion on these new laws don’t necessarily reflect my opinion on the Max Gruver incident. I’m just giving my opinion on the laws in general.

If you’re getting bullied just punch them in the nose. What’s so hard about defending yourself?

Ha. Nice. Yeah sad for sure.
At this point the "buying friends" bs that has been used forever is becoming true.
