Maybe not 30 years ago, but I know for a fact they were around 20 years ago. One got in the apartment where I was living and my wife saw it. I have the hearing damage as a reminder. I will bet she has a scar on her scalp from the ceiling fan when she jumped up on the bed.

Geckos seem to have overtaken the green house lizards. Those were everywhere as a kid but now i seem way more geckos
The green anole lizard is active during the day and the Mediterranean gecko at night.

Geckos are a transport from Asia.
Mediterranean. I guess if you count the Middle East as Asia they're from Europe and Asia.

One thing I have noticed is the green house lizards (Green Anoles) the ones that can turn brown. Are being replaced by a stripped Anole.
That's another invasive species from the Caribbean that's gotten introduced places via the plant trade.
Green (or Carolina) anoles are able to change color, green to brown. Young and females green anoles do have a white stripe down their backs.
The exotic Brown anole does have more of a pattern on their backs than green anoles.
I'm sure their is some interspecific competition and whatnot, but I'm not sure it's an exact replacement. The brown anoles are more terrestrial, while the green anoles are arboreal. The greens are still around, but they're just higher up in trees.
Greens are easier to catch, in my opinion because they flush up where they're easier to grab, while the browns flush down into cover.
Edit to add: They tend to be in Louisiana's larger cities than in the country as well.
Also...Besides the Mediterranean Gecko, there is also an Sri Lankan House Gecko that's been observed within Louisiana, in the New Orleans area I believe.
