This isn’t correct
You still get paid 100% normal even when you run out of pto
So if you get paid 100% normal when you run out, and they cap the negative at 40, then isn't this correct:
If you have 8 hours saved up you get 96 PTO and only have to pay back 40. So you get 48 free PTO hours?
But if you have 56 saved up you get all of your hours forfeited plus you have to pay back an additional 40?

You don’t have to “pay anything back”
You keep taking vacation until you get to negative 40 hours.
GPT never stops accruing. So, it will just take you earning back 40 hours before you are back to 0 in the bank

During this time, it seems ironic the infection control nurse is told to take off time.
Apparently CMS has relaxed mandatory reporting of HAIs (hospital acquired infections) now. Reporting that impacts how much a hospital gets reimbursed by Medicare/Medicaid. And that is part of my job (surveillance and working on policies/protocols to help lower hospital acquired infections to patients to keep them safer and healthier). So from senior leadership....I’m not seen as necessary right now to them. Even though we are slammed with phone calls from various staff wanting guidance, etc right now on COVID related stuff. Rounding on the COVID units daily to make sure staff have what they need, etc, We are also slammed working up COVID exposures at work and working with our public health department. But that doesn’t impact how the hospital is reimbursed so I guess again....we are not seen as necessary enough.
And the only reason others in the hospital may not like us is because they don’t like when we point out basic stuff they are doing that can be harmful to patients.
Healthcare workers in general before this pandemic are pretty horrible about washing their hands as frequently as they are supposed to. Or wearing PPE appropriately.

Agreed. Hospitals all over the country are cutting pay and furloughing employees. I feel really lucky to work at Ochsner and only have to worry about my GPT right now. People who are complaining about it need to watch the news and realize how fortunate they are. Also still planning to receive Merit and 401k contributions.

Expectant mothers are given 6 months maternity leave separate from GPT. I know this because all of my superiors are female, and all have had babies within the last couple of years.
This could be exclusive to salaried leadership though. I'm not 100% certain.

My wife is an ICU nurse at an Ochsner hospital. I asked her about non ICU nurses getting forced to take time off and she said they are pulling them up to the ICU floors and training them because they are so short handed right now. She's currently getting a $150/day bonus for each of her normal shifts and a $500/day bonus for each OT shift she picks up during the week.

You mean to tell me they fully pay 6 months off for a pregnant nurse aside from the vacation time she already had??? And still hold their position for them after not working for half a year??? When FMLA only mandates you allow them to be off for 12 weeks(unpaid)?
I have a very hard time believing that any company in the U.S. pays 6 whole months of leave for any woman having a baby.

I can 100% confirm that Ochsner is not suspending merit raises. We get ours in May. They haven't said what the merit percentages are, but I do know we still get them.
Also, the GPT mandate is now grouped by teams. If your team falls into Group A, you are not required to take GPT. Group B is required to take 32hrs a month. Group C is required to take 48hrs a month.

My leaders are salaried, and are directors and above. I'm sure it's different for them.

No way in hell they give that much to regular folks of the hospital.

Did you get an email about this? I didn’t get any details from my leadership team.

Ochsner’s management structure is ridiculous. They have mangers that manage managers who manage managers. I’m willing you can gut their administrative staff without noticing.

If you’re hourly (nurses, pharmacists, techs, etc) and there for over a year you can get up to 12 weeks with managerial approval otherwise it’s 6 weeks. Which is why many people save up their PTO

Not an email, but was told this during a department huddle.

I agree.
Supervisors over analysts. Need to be subject-matter experts. Responsible for managing day-to-day stuff and projects. I was told it's a super small raise and not really worth it given the amount of responsibility.
Managers over supervisors. Just make sure they do their job. 6 figure income in my department.
Directors over 1-2 managers.
AVP over a small handful of directors, and lead monthly/quarterly huddles and BIG project logistics.
Men in positions above analyst are few and far between. Not sure if that's relevant or not, but probably contributed to the maternity leave policy.

It’s not surprising. All the higher ups I know at Ochsner are the kind of people who would rather tell you to do something than do it themselves which is no way to run a business but it’s the business culture they’ve cultivated at the highest levels over there.

Technically I’m in therapy department. Wonder which group I’ll fall into. Wish they would communicate better.

it seems ironic the infection control nurse is told to take off time

Hospital I worked at gave lip service to the ideal of infection control but it wasn’t actually a priority.Surgery and Cath lab were very strict but the rest of the hospital was pretty lax and our infection rate reflected it.

They are pests.Everyone in the hospital can’t stand them.

That was me!!! I was asked to be infection control rep. for our unit since I was known as a stickler for infection control practices. It was a secondary role, what I did was go to the monthly meetings and I was to point out to staff things they did wrong and “educate” them on best practices.
Some of the shite I saw nurses (and Drs.) do would curl your toenails.I was not at all shy about pointing out the nasty things they were doing. Some took it well,a lot didn’t.
It all came to a head one day when my manager asked me to be a “little diplomatic” when pointing out violations as she had received some complaints.
I told her if she wanted a “diplomat” to find someone else to go to the monthly meetings or she could go herself,I never went again.
I am not implying that the majority of the nurses were nasty, they weren’t.But there were quite a few that acted like they had never heard of germs.
