This.

I moved my family here after being gone for 18 years. I love my home state. Shake the haters. If you want to come back, just come back with eyes wide open and be a positive impact locally wherever you land.

Like you I'm also from Philly and lived here for over 20 years. I'm ready to get the hell out of here, and I actually love it here. But I feel like on a sinking ship.

Our insurance just went up, its too damn hot, traffic and crime sucks

My family lives in the Old City area. If you don't need to venture out further I can see it not being that bad. Louisiana is finding ways to make it tougher to live. It still holds on to a lot of culture but do you really get to go enjoy it? How long does it last?

When not playing sports, we try to make it a point to travel around Louisiana to experience the culture. Our favorite is the Acadiana area. My wife is from Terrebonne and I love it down there too.

You're still pretty young, more likely you've reached the end of a chapter there. Sort of like phase 1 ( louisiana) phase 2 (philly).... maybe instead of coming back, you're needing to go forward. Could be you're feeling stagnant and need to move... coming back though won't be the same. Visit fine but better to think of what you want to experience and what your skills will allow and explore a new place. Test it, take a vacation in some new place or if you're stuck in your job and dislike that... now change it. Still time, still pretty young, but don't rot.
