Talk to your daughter, I said the stereo is marked down $75 then an additional 15%. So you are wrong still. I never mentioned the 63, quit making things up

If this is the case then OP should read like...

quote:

A stereo is marked down to $75. If this is a 15% decrease, find the sale price?

That would be the correct answer if worded differently.

"A stereo is marked down FROM $75. If THERE is a 15% decrease, find the sale price?

$75 * 0.85 = $63.75

You sir are correct. X x .15equals 75 gives 500-75 equals 425. Simple algebra don’t make it harder thuan it is. What answer did the teacher get?

If the question is written like this, it becomes a trick question and the sale price is $75.

$500

$75 = 15% of X

75/.15 = x

$500 = X

edit: nvm, it was asking for the sale price. Yes the sale price is $425. The original price was $500.

da fuq?

The simple formula is 75/.15=500.

Your way is easier. On paper, I did it your way. I don't know why my head does it my way without paper. I guess I don't see 75 = 500 (x) in my head.
