Need help on pation expansion joints

I have an old aggregate patio and the redwood in the expansion joints has long since rotted away.The gaps are about an inch wide and leaves and other crap fall in the gaps.Any ideas on what I could put in the gaps? the depth varies so I can't use wood.Thanks for any help.

Find some sort of elastomeric joint sealer.

Sika-Flex Joint Sealer.
Get a roll of "backer rod" (look it up at Home Depot or Lowes) to push down deep in the crack and then apply the Sika-Flex on top.

Styrofoam backing rod wedged in gaps. Push down 3/4" to 1" below surface of concrete. Put joint sealant over this backing rod filling the gap. This is a standard expansion joint and all material available at home improvement stores.
