Yep they use it because technically it's not a lie it's just never going to happen.

What about you? What made you give it up after 10 years? You're on the downhill after that. Nothing left to do but pick up E-6, 7, 8 and just coast.

I was a Staff Sergeant. Got out medically. Fell from a helicopter in 08 after Iraq. Navy botched my surgery so had another one. Missed Iraq in 09. Rehabbed and deployed to Afg in 10. Still was in tons of pain. Went to recruiter school, graduated and recruited from 11-14. Extended to PCS to east coast. Ran my annual PFT and was in so much pain. Went to medical they told me I shouldn't be walking let alone running. Did X-rays and got sent to Naval Hospital. Naval wouldn't touch me, got referred to Wilmington for private care. Had 2 operations and then transferred to wounded warrior bn to start med board. Still have issues have been seen by UNC Chappel Hill & Duke for possible Ankle Replscement but got medically retired. I was on terminal for 68 days my 1st day of civilian life was Sept 1st.

Not at all surprised to hear about the Naval hospital jacking up your surgery though. They are known for that kind of thing at times. Hope you enjoy the civilian life. It's definitely an adjustment for the first couple of years.

bro! It's going good I'm in & from Illinois originally so going to school. Illinois has the veterans grant which pays for 4 years of school so I'm banking right now being a full time unemployed student. MGIB is $1789/Mo & with 100% VA ($3400) I'm making about 5k/mo. It's different but going day by day.
This is why I want a military board because I know with me & you other vets we can help each other out. I know the military life (10 years), recruiting & retention, and medical/VA so if anyone needs help definitely find me.

Yea man, there should definitely be a military board on here. Gotta get Chicken on that.
Also, if you're using the MGIB make sure you check out the POST 9/11 too. I had both,but the P9/11 hooked me up way more. I was able to finish my BS and get half my MS without paying a dime.

Yeah I've looked into it. Being in a small town BAH sucks so that's why I'm on MGIB and I just got a letter this week saying MGIB is going up from $1789-$1860

as someone in OCS. get ready. traditional is 18 months and Phase 1 is no joke. if you enjoy civi life, make sure you're in shape. You run EVERYWHERE. And learn to love push ups. you'll be doing alot, something the marines don't do much if I recall.
