It did fail. The Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) is being passed off as the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). You don't actually believe they fixed Hubble do you?

If the pillar is 3 light years tall, how far away from the pillar would the Hubble have to be to capture the entire pillar in one frame?

No picture has ever fundamentally blown my mind more than the galaxies pictures. Seeing that many galaxies in just one portion of the sky really puts the enormity of what's out there in a graspable perspective.

I dont understand the question. Hubble can capture pictures of galaxies that are hundreds of thousand ly across.

Actually, the HST is the equivalent of about a 55,000mm lens, making it the LEAST wide angle lens ever.
