That boosts the murder count to #137 and #138.

We live right by Episcopal HS but you can cut through neighborhood roads to get to that Racetrac. Those apartments are problematic for this area.

We’re not even out of October yet.

Good grief……

Are those section 8 apartments on Longridge Ave?

If I recall correctly someone was shot to death at the Afton Oaks off of Newcastle a few years back.

Could be. Newcastle and Longridge have been issues for 20 years.

There was a dead body found in that park about a year or two ago by kids waiting for the school bus. Me and my daughter cut through there in the morning and must have beaten the discovery by 15-20 minutes.

That was in 2019. Suicide.

Just based on driving by there fairly often I'd guess most of those residents are working poor/lower middle class. They empty out pretty well on the weekdays. The apartments on either side of them seem a lot better but those are pretty ghetto.

Longridge were brand new I wanna say around 2000-2001. They were the third luxury apartments to be built in BR after mansions in the park on Perkins and the gates on Corporate.

You are correct. Spent plenty of time in there in the early 2000s and it was first class.

Man, I remember when those were some of the nicest in BR. I used to ‘know’ a girl that traveled for business and was here in Br for one week a month. Her company had her a furnished apartment at The Gates and it seemed like such a big deal. She did something with the casino but once a month, like clockwork. Those were fun days.

Shots fired by the Racetrack on Florida and North Foster. Got word about 8 shots. Might be homicide #139

The Longridge shooting appears to be a murder-suicide, so unless I am mistaken, that would only put us at 137 for the year, not 138, as a suicide is not considered to be a "homicide".

We have 68 days left in the year, we could realistically hit 175. That is about one every other day, and all it takes is one or two hot weekends and you'll reach that number.

If just a third of the shootings that go unreported by the local media were fatal, BR would easily see north of 200 murders. BR would've had three or four additional murders this past week alone had the gunfire been more accurate.

Sounds like a DV situation turned deadly.
