Since the field manager got fired, not one single person in our office can be talked into moving there, even with a big raise

I'm just pissed right now because my counterpart got San Di-fricking-ego to stay at for a month, and I get Midland since I'm more experienced and its a more profitable and important territory than San Diego is. And for his roles, he's lucked out with Nashville and Austin, and I'm in McAllen now. Surely I earned a bit of a reward for staying in the single worst place in the United States.

Midland has a beer barn and a Chili's. That's all I know.

You are an easy drive to Marfa. It's at 5000 altitude and nice and cool in the summer. In the spring, you can go down to Terlingua and raft through the St Elena (sp) canyon on the Rio Grande, hike in Big Bend and Big Bend State Park. There is good 4 wheeling and hunting down there too.....Pronghorn Antelope, Mule Deer, Javelina and Free Ranging Aoudad....pic below

10 minutes from Odessa is The Monahans (sp) State Park Sand Dunes. The dunes are 40' or so tall and you can rend a plastic disc at the park office and slide down the dunes.

There are some Craft Breweries in Odessa with tap rooms.

Have you talked to your supervisor about possibly getting a better assignment next time?

In the city, the population was distributed as 29.9% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 12.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.7 males.

I've been here 8 years. I have really good friends that are from here now. It's actually a really good place to live and work. Better than a whole lot of places in the South. Most people who talk bad about it have never been here. I'm a pretty young guy and have made a sh*t pot of money all because of my circumstance here. All my friends in Houston can't believe the lifestyle I live. Do your time and embrace the local 'influence' and they'll treat you like family. Try to get out and play some golf at one of the country clubs. Also, a lot of Ole Miss alumni out here.

I've gotten my pick of the litter at first. Started in Pittsburgh (nicer town than you think), then Dallas, and finally Fayetteville. Enjoyed those assignments, but then we've had a massive realignment and my boss no longer is able to choose my assignment, it's a person 3 positions above my manager, who I've never even met. So while I used to be able to basically choose where I go as long as there was an opening, those days are behind me. It's a sheer numbers game now.
