Thanks for the legit responses, I will check some of these places out and am grateful, plan to go out that way a few times in the coming months to check out some neighborhoods but needed somewhere to start. To the guy with 60 something thousand posts who thinks I come here every couple years to brag and fish for responses I don't know what to tell you. It's not easy moving 4 (young kids) and I see these threads on here every so often so thought I would try to get a little info, didn't mean to offend your delicate sensibilities.

Diamondhead is actually a great choice. I've lived here for 15 years and love it. No tract homes (except for a small new project by Elliot Homes), at least 95% of the homes are custom built. Good size lots, many on one of two golf courses. We have a POA, but the monthly fee is only $55. If you've ever been in the military, or know someone who has, Dimaondhead is much like a military base in that EVERYTHING you need is right here. Seriously, there is never a reason to leave the community unless you want to.

There are two golf courses and of course a country club with great food, five swimming pools, four tennis courts, a pickleball court, a private airport (there are homes with hangars on their property where they can taxi straight to the tarmac!), a bowling alley (with outstanding food), and a full service marina with Yacht club and restaurant. In addition to the recreation, no matter where you live in the community, you will be no further than a 5 to 7 minute drive (at a leisurely 30mph) from medical care (both Ochsner's and Memorial are here), Optometrist, three dental offices, three fitness centers, chiropractor, three pharmacies, a Tru-Value hardware store, a very nice Rouses, 4 or 5 banks, 2 dry cleaners, Post office, 3 gas stations, 3 different dollar stores, multiple churches, an auto repair shop, a lawnmower dealer and small engine repair shop, multiple fast food choices, and several mom and pop restaurants.

Homes are cheap, you're north of the I-10, so no storm surge to worry about (unless you live on the south side, which is waterfront, and expensive). We're also a golf cart community, so you can drive a golf cart to every amenity I've listed! As someone else in the thread posted, we're also the closest commute to NOLA.
