My wife is on the La Mortgage Bankers Association Board. She’s going to DC in April to try to end this shite.
The way it works is that the 3 credit bureaus sell the information for pennies to other lenders. It’s call Trigger Leads. Lawmakers have refused to put an end to it.

I did this once when I was looking to buy a new car. I filled out a form on one of the local dealers’s websites with my contact number, and email.
I got about 20 to 30 calls in the next 2 to 3 days and about 30 emails. I was so pissed I ignored everything and ended up not getting a car for a while.
