More test = more positive results

With the test being so widely available now, combined with certain jobs requiring test of people who aren’t sick and would not otherwise be tested, more positive case numbers doesn’t necessarily constitute a spike. If we were to test every person in the United States tomorrow, there would be a huge “spike” in positive test, it wouldn’t mean there were any more actual cases than if the test weren’t done. To see if there is an actual spike, it’s much more accurate to look at hospitalizations and deaths. Why is this seemingly so hard for the media and a lot of people to understand?

Because the media is using this information (half truths) to scare and control people.
Also, a lot of people aren't properly educated and don't have critical thinking skills to figure this out for themselves.

I can't see how states currently having dangerously high rates of infection really corresponds with only testing since over half the states with increased testing are not showing those same surges.
The theory this it's mainly just increased testing would mean that states in the northeast should just be exploding with cases right now.
All those states are testing in massive numbers during their current re-opening stages but, opposite many Sunbelt states, their percentages of positive tests just keep dropping.

I like all the news about increased cases in young folks and even *gasp* increased hospitalizations... Which is how it's supposed to work.
Young people get it and recover. The old and sick hide. The economy survives. Hospitals aren't overwhelmed. 'merica!

Yeah my bad. The overwhelming amount of covid threads in here attempting to make it look like it’s no big deal are getting old.
Bottom line is the virus is legit and an assload of people seem to think otherwise, evidenced by the significant lack of people wearing masks in public. Therefore, it will continue to spread and more people will die. Not saying we need to shut the economy down, but the constant downplaying of this thing is excruciating.
