Robin Olds- A member of the College FB HoF. Great aviator. Super bad arse.

Both men are bona fide badasses. It's like asking if you want Marciano or Ali watching your back in a fight

Hartmann was the baddest fighter pilot in WWII and fought on the Eastern front. He was captured at the end of the war by the Americans, who gave him to the Russians and he was thrown in prison for 10 years. After he was released West Germany made him commander of the new Luftwaffe.

Just finished "Fighter Pilot". Really interesting book that goes fast. Olds wasn't shy about naming people he thought were incompetent or that he didn't like. However, in one instance, he refused to name a "certain disreputable Navy lieutenant". Based on the facts he provided, it's pretty easy to figure out that the disreputable lieutenant is Duke Cunningham. I thought that was pretty funny. Olds was big on honor and telling the truth, so I guess Cunningham's behavior really rubbed him the wrong way.

I knew who you were referring to before I read the name.

My first thought was John McCain, but then I realized he had been a POW for 5 years by the time Operation Linebacker took place. Cunningham claimed 3 kills on the first day of Linebacker.

Duke was never known to hold back his thoughts and words and didn't win him any favors later on in his political career. He and McCain were polar opposites though both were Republicans.
