Sounds like the problem with the current "church." Religion over relationship. I've seen people that went to church their entire lives get truly saved in their 60s and 70s and admit to somehow missing the point of what Christ did the entire time.
Our good works are filthy rags, Christ paid it all. One must confess their sin, repent and follow Christ . Everything else in Christianity lacks the importance for the level or argument there is across the different denominations.
Saying all that, I understand what your grandma said. If I had still had to wear my sins I would be scared too! Lol
this is why i'm using my dying breathe to repent.

My grandfather passed away in 2015. He had been sent home on hospice care after a cardiac event had left his lungs and heart damaged. They basically gave him 2 weeks to live.
During the end of the second week, he asked for one more cup of coffee. He drank it and then gave the cup to home health nurse. He then asked her if she could move his bed into an angle to where he could see my grandmother, my father and my uncle.
She did and he told her thank you. Then he closed his eyes and he was gone.

I’ve been lucky so far that I haven’t witnessed it. Only our dog, had cancer and was passed the point of return. The doctor gave him the first shot to deaden the pain and his pupils got as big as cornea. Then the killer shot. He said, “I think I’m dying!”, then passed. The vet tells me FIL, ‘long time no see, good to see ya’ right afterwards lol. Messed me up for a couple weeks
Absolutely not a clue of what you are saying.

The sad irony is that when Redd Foxx was actually dying from a heart attack, no one helped him at first because that thought that he was doing his Fred Sanford gig.

I’ve worked ICU, ER, Rapid Response, and Code Team for 27 years.
Seen a lot of people die over the years, too many to count. Most in one 12 hour shift was four deaths.
I’ve seen and experienced things I simply can’t explain, with both death experiences and life after death when the person came back after verifying zero heart movement by echo.
Nonbelievers can try to rationalize all of it, but there’s simply things we don’t understand. So many stories I can tell…

My father said these words before his passing.
We should console ourselves with these words of comfort....
"Make no mistake, brethren, about those who have gone to their rest; you are not to lament over them, as the rest of the world does, with no hope to live by. We believe, after all, that Jesus underwent death and rose again; just so, when Jesus comes back, God will bring back those who have found rest through him. This we can tell you as a message from the Lord himself; those of us who are still left alive to greet the Lord’s coming will not reach the goal before those who have gone to their rest.[4] No, the Lord himself will come down from heaven to summon us, with an archangel crying aloud and the trumpet of God sounding; and first of all the dead will rise up, those who died in Christ. Only after that shall we, who are still left alive, be taken up into the clouds, be swept away to meet Christ in the air, and they will bear us company. And so we shall be with the Lord for ever.[5] Tell one another this for your consolation. - 1 Thessalonians 4:12-17
I want to see God.

My mother passed of cancer. I was coming into town to say my goodbyes. The next day I stayed at my parents house watching my 2 year old nephew with my parents dog while my sister took care of funeral arrangements.
In the living room when I hear someone shuffling walking down the hallway, the dog stands up over the couch to see who's there also (no one else was there).
Later my nephew wanders into the kitchen and I hear him say "bye bye grandma". No one had told him that she passed.
--
Also my grandfather shortly before he passed, he was bedridden. He said he was having bad dreams of a dark figure who was coming in his room and putting his hands around his neck and his neck feeling like it was burning.

Jesus did say that Hell is real.
He also said that Purgatory is real, also.
The word Jesus uses is “Gehenna.” The term does not refer to a place of eternal torment but to a notorious valley just outside the walls of Jerusalem, believed by many Jews at the time to be the most unholy, god-forsaken place on earth.
Jesus never mentions "hell" in the scriptures at all.
"hell" is not a biblical teaching at all, only a mistranslation.
