Mom tries to run over officer, abandons son after making kids steal candy

HOUSTON - Charges were stacking up for a mother who investigators say instructed her young sons to steal candy from a store and tried to run over a deputy during a getaway attempt, leaving one of her children behind.

Bianca Pearce, 31, is charged with aggravated assault of a public servant, endangering a child and criminal mischief.

According to Houston police, Pearce took her three sons, ages 13, 9 and 9 months old, with her to a Food Town in the 9500 block of South Kirkwood on Sunday. She instructed her oldest two sons to go into the store to steal candy, while she waited outside in her minivan with the baby.

A Fort Bend County sheriff's deputy was working security at the store and witnessed the boys running out with the candy. Pearce took off before her 9-year-old could hop into the van, investigators say.

Pearce allegedly tried to run over the deputy as she drove away, and hit another vehicle in the parking lot. Police tracked the mom down at her apartment and placed her under arrest.

Pearce was booked into the Harris County Jail and her bond was set at $60,000. According to court documents, Pearce has prior convictions for forgery and possession of a controlled substance.
