Yeah, in those cases airplanes are landed as soon as possible, and if the aren't they go down quickly. My suggestion to you is to look into the Swissair 111 crash and read up on it.

Naw man. Such case has never happened in commercial aviation. One of the first things that the flight deck crew does in this type of emergency in to disengage the autopilot. Let's say an onboard fire kills the pilots and then, miraculously and inexplicably burns out, what happens to this airplane?? It crashes because it isn't going to hold altitude. It's going to nose over into a dive.
