Sounds to me like people just show up and say "give me another knee" and go home and recline in their lazyboy and enjoy fast food for the next six months or more.
The average American is a fricking illiterate retard, and so most people the doctor sees will be that type of person. Go sit in a waiting room and tell me 75% of the trashy arse people in there aren't borderline hopeless.

Just get that 100/70 bcbs plan. It’s only 16k a year for a family of 3!!! What a bargain!!!

There are some people who still have good health coverage as well. Personally, outpatient procedures cost me $150. Doesnt matter what the cost of the procedure is. Could be wound care, could be a surgery.
I probably leave $20K+ a year on the table in salary for some of the benefits of the company I work for though (in addition to other things) so there's usually a tradeoff.

It recently occurred to me how many posters on the OT feel the need to post that they make a good living.

Jesus you make your wife pay a 30$ a month medical bill?

Do you have an out of pocket max? I just treat that as my deductible since the last few times we reached the deductible we also reached the out of pocket max. It's all too damn complicated.
We have an out of pocket max which we have already hit. Full body MRIs for everybody in the house!

Nothing is shittier than learning that one of the doctors is not in-network. The hospital is in network. The surgeon is in network. Oh but this particular anesthesiologist is not. Sorry, pay up.

She wanted to. She's also an adult and can take care of her own business. If it was some egregious amount of money she had to pay, I would help her out, but I think she can handle $30 a month.

My wife needed a small growth removed from her leg last year. I paid for the majority of it, but she is paying for the rest of it.
I think we are all still just trying to get to the bottom of this. Not cracking on you. Just curious about this clearly odd statement.

My doctor told me I only had six months to live. I told him there’s no way I can pay his bill. So he gave me another six months.

A 14k surgery would cost me 0.
Any co pay I'd have to pay would be reimbursed by my company.
There are some companies with really good benefits left.

Yea, many people pay nothing.
The result is people with deductibles putting off needed medical care until absolutely necessary, while nonpaying patients pop in frequently for minor or made up health issues hoping to score something to eventually sell on the street at 100% profit
