Mechanics are people, some people are not honest.

I understand the mistrust with mechanics but not to be singled out. People that offer a service will take advantage of you in a second if they see opportunity. AC repair, pest control, contractors, doctors, lawyers, you name it. Doctors always prescribe you something you don't need, come back in two weeks for another check up, when you do they find something else that's they need to investigate further and it's never ending. Who's going to question them? There are many other professions that scam the avg Jane/Joe.
Totally agree with this statement! i was just singling out the mechanics on this but have the same thing happen with other services: A/c , electric, plumbing etc.. Makes me angry though. Just once i'd like a guy just to say yeah it was only a minor fix and get charged a reasonable price so i can say that was awesome. Dont believe that has ever happened though.

A mechanic told me they try to milk money out of easy jobs because a lot of times they will break even or lose money on the difficult/hard to diagnose problems.
