So this guy claims to be a country.

This ought to be a great case. I hope his defense is on TV.

Wo a firearm...

A lot of nerds spend big money on ultralight gear to shave off GRAMS. It's a tough sell for them to carry a 2 POUND piece of gear that you would almost certainly never use. Virtually no one carries bear spray on the AT even though there is a very remote chance of a black bear attack. Same reasoning.

And then, you run into a crazy pirate.

Stuff like this is why I hate hiking solo.

Interestingly, of the 9-10 murders that have occurred on the AT over the last 40 years I think all but one have been couples/groups.

A few years ago you had Gary Michael Hilton, the National Forest Serial Killer, brutally murdering hikers in NC and GA.

The guy looks well adjusted. I wouldn’t peg him as the type of guy to do something like this

I’m a bit worried about this! A buddy of mine is in the process of hiking the trail. He hikes for a two week span, and spends a day or so in a hotel to relax and chill. I was texting with him on Monday, he was in Bland, Virginia and was planning on getting back in the trail in a day or so. Hopefully he wasn’t the “male” victim! This timeline and area are pretty similar.

Read about David Paul David Crews. It'll make you never want to hike- especially with your SO- without carrying again.

More information: the two stabbing victims weren't on the trail as single hikers they were two of a group of four. If that isn't bad enough...

The four had set up a tent, were inside it, when a voice from outside said, I'm going to pour gasoline over your tent and set it on fire. So the four broke their tent down and tried to escape. One was stabbed to death on the spot, the second pretended to be dead from her stab wounds. The other two got help as the perp ran away, leaving his dog behind.
