I always laugh at these constitutional scholar retards.

The first amendment protects you from criminal persecution and governmental restrictions on free speech.

It does mean you can do whatever you want where you want whenever you want without repercussions

I, have so many others, served this great nation, and we don't go around causing upsets to the public at large.

The service members are not protected by the Constitution, we fall under the UCMJ.

It's awesome to read this thread and see that people are starting to push back on unsubstantiated religious claims and not just accept them as fact or remain passively silent as everyone was intimidated into doing back in the 60s-90's in the bible belt.

I think it is fine for people to discuss their faith as long as they are willing to listen to the counter argument of another faith or of the idea of only believing in things on good evidence.

But most of the time, people that do what this seal is doing will get upset, angry, possibly to the point of wanting to fight if you try to make counter arguments to their faith claims.

They do this because they know deep inside that they're full of BS.

Truth will prevail over superstition in the long run.

I'm a Christian and it's incredibly embarrassing the crap that other Christians pull in the name of "evanglization." Don't they realize that it does the exact opposite of what they're trying to accomplish?

I admit that if I wasn't born/raised Catholic that I would harbor a strong resentment for Christianity...expecially the science-denying, in your face, logic defying protestant tards.

Sounds like the military needs to include basic civics in their training

They do. And the codes and conduct under the UCMJ are well covered.

I would love to see a day where people understood civics enough to understand that the First amendment is discussing what the government is permitted to do.

Mall cop isn't acting on behalf on Congress, so the argument doesn't apply.

And not understanding such a basic point makes the SEAL come across as both ignorant and full of himself when he brings up his service as "fighting for the right to do this."

Of course the mall cop is right. Any first year law student could tell you that. Too bad law school is required to learn civics. This video is just great Bc of the mall cop. He's magnificent.

1. This Malls policy or the mall cops/managements interpretation of the policy is bad for business.

I'd think a no solicitation policy is good for a Mall.

I'm guessing the Navy SEAL was going from person to person bothering folks and trying to talk to them, and it wasn't the mall cop randomly stopping him from having a conversation with his friends about religion.

he is utilizing a public place that the military guy does not pay for to ask for peoples time that detracts from the goal of the mall which is to sell goods and services

If the guy wants to rent a kiosk and hand out pamphlets, I'm sure the mall would be more willing to allow him to continue

Came here to post this. In general, real SEALs don't tell people they're SEALs. Of course, I don't care if he is or not. When a private business wants you off their property because you're not abiding by their policies, you leave. I say this as a Christian.

It's not like it's the fricking illuminati. Half of them have it as their occupation Facebook.

"...engaged in a private conversation between myself, a friend and 2 people we just met."

Translation: "I was harassing and forcing my religion on two strangers while they were trying to shop when mall security had the gall to tell me that harassing their customers isn't allowed on their private property."

Yeah, someone complained that there was someone bothering people, and security responded. There is almost no other way that this played out.
