Never gets brutal. You will have some 40 degree rains though which can be Bone chilling. City goes on major lockdown with any snow at all though. But that's becoming de rigeur in the South.
Summer can get nasty hot like down there. Hot (95+), humid, nights can be some relief but to wake up to 70+ is just unpleasant.
