I had the same issue not long ago. The problem was a part called the blend door actuator. The thing costs less than $100 and is about the size of a deck of cards. They evidently start with that part and build the entire vehicle around it, They had to remove the dash, center console and driver's seat to access it. They estimated 8 hours of labor but finished the job in 6.

Well that amount of labor does not seem fun
How muchish am I looking at? And I bet that’s the case because before it crapped out completely it was blowing colder on the passenger side than the driver side and Dr. Google tells me that’s a symptom.

Yeah - I was getting cold air on the passenger side and warm air on the driver's side.
I'm a regular customer for tires, oil changes and whatnot at the place where mine was repaired. They charged me $100/hr for labor plus the price of the part.
The actuator controls the vent flappers that direct hot or cold air to the cabin.

Check around and you may get lucky like I did. The place I used has a guy who specializes in this repair. Little wiry black dude who can worm his way into tight spaces. He tore the inside of my truck to pieces and put it back together with no rattles or squeaks. Looks like it did when new.

You should ask DW about your car thing. He might be of some help even if it’s not Chevy or Ford
