He charged at the Japanese battleship because he intended to sink it by throwing his huge nuts on the deck and swamping the boat. Seriously though, some men are just made different. The balls it took to turn towards your certain death. The story goes that the Johnston’s steering had been knocked out at the bridge and he was last seen on the stern of the ship turning to make another charge at a Japanese cruiser he waved as he passed the Sammy B coming back from it’s own run at the fleet with one of his hands or arms blown off.
