I wish Alabamas was 23k. Way too many students, many from Yankee states.

LSU's enrollment is higher than Bama's and is much higher than 23k. It has 35k undergrad and 7k graduate, around 42k total. Bama has 34k undergrad and 40.8k total enrollment. LSU has recently had a huge uptick in out of state. I think because LSU seemingly has biggest college celebs like Livvy Dunne, Skenes, Jayden Daniels, etc. as of recent. When I was at LSU just recent 2011-16, it was 20% OOS. I think it is closer to 50% today.

Bama and LSU's undergrad enrollment, grad enrollment, test scores, acceptance rates, academic rankings, 4 yr, 5 yr, 6 yr graduation rate are all nearly identical of each other. I don't think either university has a more similar other university as each other.

On other note, if Bama has similar football seasons as last season, I'd imagine their undergrad enrollment would take a hit OOS.

Dude, no way. No way LSU had a 13% acceptance rate. That would buck the typical 70-75% acceptance rate. Maybe that's the rate of who showed up on campus vs total applicants. The matriculation rate is those who attend vs those who got accepted. I'd imagine LSU is in the 25-50% range.

Say the dorm last 30 years.

2-3x that long.

The ground lease with the developer is probably 50 years, and LSU will expect more useful life after that.

Where is this $215 mil figure from? That is a lot for 1,200 students. Say the dorm last 30 years. 215 mil divided by (1,200 x 30) is $6,000 per student per year which I guess isn't bad, but I feel like 1,200 students could be done for half of that 215 mil figure.

Assuming 2 students per room, a dorm room costs $360,000 to build (yes, accounting for common areas and shite like that, I know)?

Geesh!

For comparision, here's a chart I found outlining typical costs to build motels/hotels of varying categories of luxariness:

quote:

Hotel Type Cost per sq foot (rural-urban) Cost per room (average construction costs)
Motel $134-$234 $75,000
3-star hotel $190-$375 $221,000
4-star hotel $260-$410 $318,200
5-star hotel $332-$550 $604,200
Guest House (B&B) $150-$500 $50,000
Resort $300-$550 $610,000

LINK

Basically, you would have to get to something generally above the cost of a 4 star hotel to equal these construction costs for a freaking dorm.

Why give an instate kid a scholarship in addition of his tops supplement.. you already got him

Like hell you do. That’s the kind of thinking that causes this state to lose its best students every year. At a minimum, you should be giving full rides to National Merit finalists and those with perfect test scores. And then hope they stick around and improve this dump.

It would definitely alleviate it but honestly I wouldn't know, I haven't walked around campus for the last 4 years.

They are very shy about building additional parking garages. LSU lost its a$$ on the bookstore garage when actual volume was 10% of what was projected.

I think they are looking to possibly build one by the Nat

I think LSU will still be around then. Unless another college becomes the flagship university. Who will it be? LSU-S? Go Pilots!

I need to see ROI on this. Do dorms produce significant, positive revenue? If not get out of the dorm business. Higher education is a mismanagement business finance model. Not to mention the brainwashing department
