I beleive you are missing a word in the question....what is the difference between an original clay PIECE and a clay PIECE?

One is an original one-of....the other would be a rendition or interpretation of an original clay piece....while there are many types of sediment and composition of clay, there is no distinction per se between types of clay composition described like that.
